Homage to an Artwork

Homage is something that demonstrates respect for another person or attests to their value or influence. While researching about Bruno Taut, I saw the City Crown and the structure was so enchanting especially the color scheme of the temple.

Bruno Taut released his book-manifesto "The City Crown" in 1919. In it, he laid the foundation for a brand-new community hub: a secular area sandwiched between the Gothic cathedral and the Asian temple. The newest goal of architecture in these temples is commitment to beauty and a sanctuary for the spirit. Bruno Taut makes an effort to create a futurist utopia in which technology aids the Geist.

I looked into Tom Fruin's work which is well-known for his expansive installations, frequently constructs massive sculptures that allude to nearby buildings out of steel and vividly colored plexiglass. He talks about his desire to create art that is both accessible to the general public and sustainable by using recycled materials and alternative energy sources. He draws inspiration from the city and frequently bases his designs on underutilised infrastructure.  His enormous sculptures made of metal and acrylic try to monumentalize this passion. He said ," the sun casts the most pleasing colors surrounding the sculpture as it moves across the sky. The interior lights of the sculptures, however, convert them into beacons of multicolored light at night."

HOMAGE

My homage is to Bruno Taut's "The City Crown" and I changed the structure and sketched it differently keeping the idea of his foundation and materials such as plexiglass similar to the way Tom Fruin uses it and colored it in polychromatic color. Moreover, to make it more highlighted, I used the black background. The way his structure was a definition of beauty, I tried to keep that meaning intact in my design and showed my respect to his work as his every work expresses everything from the 20th century.
