Icebreaker : Recreating an Artwork
We were challenged to recreate a famous painting by Kehinde Wiley while working with a partner as a group.
Nishma & myself as a team
This is the picture we chose to recreate.
We were hunting for outdoor locations in order to match the picture. There were two locations in our mind. A spot behind the Vijay Patel Building in the university and also a spot in the Castle Gardens, a garden right besides the university.
The spot behind the Vijay Patel Building
Castle Gardens
Since our photo had a nice yellow background and went well with the yellow flowers, we liked the first location better. We considered using the spot behind of the Vijay Patel instead of the Castle Gardens since it provided a greater variety of foreground and background to give it a "forest" vibe.
We also took extra props. As you can see in the photo, the person being photographed is lying down on a rock. Since we lacked that, we added two egg cartons and got some flowers to give it a unique twist.
The person in the photo is dressed in a yellow shirt and some denim pants. I complied with Nishma's request to wear yellow that day since I had some yellow clothing and denim pants in my closet.
She arranged my body in accordance with the image we were provided and added flowers to certain areas of my body to further emphasise its artistic appearance. I am quite pleased with how the final image turned out.
In my opinion, it was incredibly enjoyable to recreate this artwork while enduring the UK's weather. It wasn't at all difficult; rather, it was really enthusiastic and light, which we appreciated. Within ten to fifteen minutes, we completed this. In addition to being quick and not seeming like a task, it made us think and utilise our minds to come up with original ideas. It has truly made me happy with the final outcome and also my partner was really cooperative with all of our ideas which really made the work more easier and fun to do.
The comparison between the artwork and the photograph we worked on is below;
