First Thoughts!

This term, we were given three themes again for our set project similar to the previous term. Although we have worked based on themes previously still it is going to be hard to relate and create physical outcomes along with 2D outcomes. It clearly shows how each term had been getting tougher with different level of project theme.

I will be now discussing about the new three terms for this term project below.

SPIDER ON MARS

Spider on Mars is a theme based on either space or high-tech structures. This theme is mainly originates from David Bowie's backing band which helped him to create most of the iconic music recordings named 'Ziggy Stardust'. Moreover, 'Mars Attacks' movie starring Jack Nicholson based on UFO, aliens and spaceships can also be an inspiration. I do not know what structures to design on this theme but I found about Arachnid Architecture as Human Shelter and this is inspired by spider webs, using bundled strands of carbon fiber to create the structure. This theme gives a lot of ideas about using bio-engineering to built futuristic structures.

RENAISSANCE

Renaissance is a period of time where rebirth or a new change in art, knowledge and culture is cultivated. This theme in architecture refers to the symmetry, geometry, proportion and balance such as columns, arches and domes. First of all, I thought it would be really hard to work with this theme as it is going to be tough to have 3D outcomes but later on when I was looking into the modern structures based on renaissance architecture and the works of other architect, I was quite impressed how the style has been simplified mainly focusing on geometry and symmetry. These was one of the theme I preferred to work with for my set project this term.

OCEANIC

The first thing that came to my mind after hearing about this theme is 'St. Martin Island, Bangladesh'. This theme inspires a lot of ideas related to the creatures of ocean, aquatic plants and beach. Moreover, the ocean has been an inspiration for the designers, artists and film makers such as movies titles Avatar: Way of Water & Aquaman. Although this theme is chosen by the majority of people, I still chose to do it based on many factors as I could relate to the site and the concept of the project.

I decided to go with Oceanic theme after brainstorming a lot about the last two themes and I will try to think more and try to make the ideas more realistic.
